Coffee with a purpose – SERVED. is the Gold Coast’s first charity-owned not-for-profit coffee shop
Coffee is a non-negotiable daily ritual for many. In fact, three in four Australians are reported to enjoy at least one cup of coffee per day. If you’re anything like us, you straight-up refuse to contemplate any kind of productivity until sufficient levels of caffeination have been achieved. Sure, some might say ‘addicted’ to coffee, but we’d prefer to look at it as a committed and mutually rewarding relationship. If you too are fond of a brew and are a regular traveller along the Gold Coast Highway in Mermaid Beach, listen up – there’s a new coffee slinger in town that you need to know about, it’s called SERVED. and it’s here to do good, one coffee at a time.
Whether you’re a one-a-day sipper, or you’re an over-achieving two-or-more type, SERVED. is a brand-new cafe that’s here to make you feel extra chipper about your morning habit. The coffee nook is being hailed as the Gold Coast’s first charity-owned not-for-profit coffee shop where 100-percent of net profits are donated back to its overarching charity, Serving Our People. Do good just by drinking coffee – that’s what we call a win-win! To ensure SERVED. is known for its quality sip, the team recruited Jackson Snook, who has been pouring coffees for 15 years at some of the Gold Coast’s favourite coffee houses including Daark Espresso at Chirn Park. On pour will be Melbourne’s St Remio coffee beans, which, as a company is equally as passionate about sourcing sustainable coffee as well as giving back and supporting coffee-growing communities. SERVED. will also offer a selection of freshly baked pastries, its own branded water, Hrvst juice as well as kombucha.
SERVED. is the handiwork of Serving Our People, which was born out of necessity during Covid times. Originally conceived as a service that procured and delivered essential goods including meals, groceries and medication during city-wide lockdowns, Serving Our People has grown to a mobilised team of more than 2,100 volunteers across Southeast Queensland and New South Wales, delivering 19,000 meals, and more than 1,000 food packages. The charity’s founder and president, Yas Matbouly, said SERVED. allows Gold Coast locals to support a meaningful cause in the simplest way possible. “We know that times are tough for a lot of people at the moment, meaning it can be harder to donate to others. The concept of SERVED. allows individuals to support a great cause without spending more money than they normally would,” said Yas. “We hope SERVED. will attract the attention of locals on their morning walk or the daily commute to work, who otherwise may walk straight past the charity, were it not for the bright blue and white striped awning above the coffee window.”
In addition to launching SERVED. the charity is gearing up to unveil Queensland’s first ‘free supermarket’, which is also located at the organisation’s headquarters. The supermarket will officially launch on Thursday December 22, which will allow people in need to get some non-perishable essentials.
If you’re keen to sip for an excellent cause, SERVED. officially opens its doors this Thursday December 22, skip over to our Stumble Guide for opening times.
